"That is the best piano of its size I have ever recorded; it was flawless--perfect. Thank you." Tom Tucker - recording engineer legend Grammy Award recipient, Paisley Park engineer/studio guru, multiple gold and platinum record engineer
"The Sauter piano was absolutely magnificent. It was so responsive and just a joy!"
JEANNE ARLAND PETERSON, pianist extraordinaire, was a child prodigy. Growing up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, her talent revealed itself early on, when she began to play chords and melody on the piano at the young age of 3. But, remarkably she did not have her first formal piano lesson until the age of 15. That same year she had her first paying "gig" under the watchful eye of her older brother, saxophonist Donald Pouliot. Jeanne's musical mentors in those days were Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson, and their influence is very much reflected in her enduring and innovative playing style.
After a lot of research, Dr. Walston purchased a rebuilt 1931 Mason & Hamlin model A from us. Thanks Dennis!
The credit for the 'belly work' on the piano goes to Robert Linton, a first class artisan. Robert is currently working on a 1904 Knabe grand and a 1915 Mason Hamlin model A. Both are already sold.
"The [Hailun] was a pleasure to play."

"Gorgeous piano! [Hailun 218] You know it's good when you don't have to think about it - you just play!"
-Ruth Moody (The Wailin' Jennys)
Ruth Moody did a live recording at The Landmark on a specially prepared 7'2" Hailun grand. Please enjoy the audio track that Ruth gave us permission to use.
On Eric Himy's concert Dec. 2011 at the Landmark Center in Saint Paul:
"Words fail me. It was one of the best concerts I have ever seen in my life; beyond beauty. It was an avalanche of sound!"
The concert was performed on a Hailun 218 prepared by Wells Pianos. This was one of our sponsored community events.
"One measure of a man is how he responds in situations where he has to choose between benefitting himself or benefitting another. When I met Kieran last summer, I had just started looking for a [certain unique] piano. At the time, he didn't have what I was looking for. Of course he was willing to try to find what I wanted, and did search, but he also told me of another person he thought I should contact.
As it turned out, he was right and I ended up making a purchase from that individual. It's a testament to Kieran's integrity that he placed a higher priority on helping me than on helping himself. You will not find a more honest and honorable person with whom to do business."
An unsolicited review from Ethan Torrey living here in the Twin Cities.
"While, on the political side of your blog, we’re certainly not shopping at the same store, I am indebted to your fine post on Kieran Wells, and about Hailun pianos. We were looking at a wide range of entry-level baby grands for our son, and your post was influential in steering us toward Wells Pianos. And we were rewarded. Kieran is terrific, the service is terrific, and I’m in my living room next to the Hailun, which arrived a month ago"

A big step above the rest....in service and in approach to this industry. My introduction to Kieran was simply through a favor....I needed a small part for my baby grand and when nobody else in town was willing to take the time to provide me with service Kieran did....and gave me a very equitable deal with extremely customer centric service. The "wow" factor came when I started talking to him about his inventory and his approach to marketing, pricing, consignment, inventory mgmt. and the great selection of pianos he had in his showroom. I have been searching for a shop to list my Kawai 5.1. I called over 10 shops asking for their approach to consignment, their cut, and their sales skills. All, except for Wells Pianos gave me standard terms and the slight brushoff.....more interested in serving their manufacturer relationships vs. me. When asked about Kieran's approach he talked about the piano industry, the pockets of demand, his national reach, his willingness to take into consideration time of year, market supply/demand, customer trends, and his inventory turns to provide a fair % split. THE ONLY SHOP IN MINNEAPOLIS to provide me with expertise, opinion and approach that made sense to me as a buyer. Great experience.Greg R.Minneapolis, MNLink to original review
A thousand thanks for your helping me select my new piano. My Steinway Model
L sounds fabulous. You are my piano hero, because you made my dream a
reality. I will be singing your praises and playing my piano for years to
come. (I know you will find a good home for my Kawai KG2, and make someone
else very happy.) You have the best piano shop in the Twin Cities. Feel
free to use me as a reference. Thank you, again, Kieran. Sara Drinane
